Cinder I Marissa Meyer

"Vanity is a factor, but it is more a question of control. It is easier to trick others into perceiving you as beautiful if you can convince yourself you are beautiful. But mirrors have an uncanny way of telling the truth."

Cinder is a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She's reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen - and a dangerous temptation.

After having heard so much about this series, the "Lunar Chronicles" I was so curios as to what the buzz was about and if truly it lived up to its name. I can now say after just finishing the first book in the series, "Cinder" that it is absolutely AMAZING.!

In a world full of humans, cyborgs, androids and "people" from the planet Lunar an interesting world is unraveled before us. Our main character Cinder, following in the footsteps of Cinderella lives with her vicious and mean stepmother, which is demanding and treats her very badly. Cinder is blamed for many things and forced to work for the family, her only friend being an android but also one of the two step daughters Peony, something that never made her stepmother and her other step sister happy. When she meets Kai something inside her changes, she changes but she is still to realise this. Throughout the book we see her trying her hardest to cope through everyday life which is hard considering the fact that she feels like she does not belong between the others due to the fact that she is different.

When I began this book, it did take me a few chapters to get into it and become completely drawn to the story. However, after understanding the characters and having build up the world I was able to love the concept behind it. So many people grew up with Cinderella and the connections are there, all you have to do is change Cinderella and bring her into a different time. This book managed just this, being different and interesting at the same time, keeping me hooked to find out what is going to happen. And of course being a sucker for love that is something I also saw in this book which made me like it even more. Overall just intrigued by the world and really looking forward to reading the sequel, Scarlet. It did take me some time to finally read it and I do regret leaving it to now, should have read it ages ago. But better late than never.!

My rating : 5/5
